How To Build Ratio Charts In Think or Swim | Trading Tutorials

With a blank chart loaded in think or swim, go to the beaker icon in the top blue bar to load a new study. In the edit studies and strategies popup, navigate to the price ratio study. Load this study and close out the studies and strategies window.

Next step is to eliminate price action and volume. We just want to be looking at the ratio chart. Go to the gear icon in the top blue bar and turn off the price subgraph in the main general tab, and the volume subgraph in the equities tab. Now click back into the edit studies and strategies window by using the beaker icon in the top blue bar. In the ratio study settings you have the ability to change all of the inputs for the study its self. In here you can change the tickers that are being ratioed, the type of price reading you are looking at, and the moving average lengths. In addition you can change the look and feel visuals. We can make the lines colored based on up vs down ticks or make them all the same for a solid colored line.

Before closing out of these windows, save the style that you like on the ratio as well as creating a new chart layout that has this as the settings. A critical MUST CHECK component here is making sure that the save studies and strategies to the layout is checked off when you create the preset, noting that the price ratios charts are essentially the lower study maximized.

To load a ratio grid like what we have for the main build on the sectors, go to the flexible grid and load the correct number of sectors. From there populate each of the cells with a different sector and load your pre saved style from above. Change each of the ratio tickers to match what is in the search box and just like that you’ve got a fully functional ratio grid in think or swim!
